Lithonia posts updated 2026 Municipal Court calendar and payment reminders for residents

At the clerk's window at 6920 Main Street, a Lithonia citation is a small piece of paper with one date that matters more than any other. That date is the fine line between walking out with the matter resolved and walking into something worse.

On October 13, the City of Lithonia republished its 2026 Municipal Court calendar, the schedule that holds those dates for every traffic citation and city ordinance case written by a Lithonia officer.

What your citation demands

Lithonia's municipal court handles traffic citations and city ordinance cases. A citation carries a specific court date and time. For the person holding the ticket, that one date decides whether the matter resolves in a courtroom or gets more expensive in the mail.

Not every citation can be settled with a payment. Some violations carry a mandatory court appearance, which means showing up before the judge rather than paying online. Even for a payable ticket, the payment has to be received by the scheduled court date and time. Anyone who has already missed a court date needs to call the court rather than wait it out.

A missed date does not stay local. A failure to appear can reach the Georgia Department of Driver Services, the state agency that administers license suspensions. A failure-to-appear suspension generally takes effect 28 calendar days after the agency gets the notice from the court.

That 28-day clock is where the money is. Resolving the matter before the suspension date means no reinstatement fee; missing it can trigger a fee of $100 — or $90 if paid by mail, under O.C.G.A. § 40-5-56 — on top of the original ticket.

Confirm your date

The city's website carries the full 2026 Municipal Court schedule. Lithonia Municipal Court sits at 6920 Main Street, and the clerk's office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., closing for lunch from noon to 1:00 p.m.

Anyone who wants to confirm a date rather than trust memory can call the court at 770-482-8136 and ask for the clerk's office at extension 114, where Faye Brantley serves as the court clerk.

Traffic fines can be paid online through the City of Lithonia's secure Citizen Portal, which requires the ticket number and payment information. But an online payment is not an out for every citation: when a court appearance is mandatory, paying the ticket does not take the place of showing up.

If a date has already slipped

If a date has already slipped, the only correct step is to call the court at 770-482-8136 rather than let it slide.

Two stretches of the holiday calendar are worth fixing in mind alongside whatever date is printed on a ticket: the court and City Hall are closed for Thanksgiving on November 26–27 and for Christmas on December 24–25, weeks when the doors at 6920 Main Street won't open.
